Florida plumbing is its own animal. Between the limestone, the high water tables, and the sheer volume of retirees calling about running toilets, it's a market that never slows down. But pricing is all over the place depending on where you are in the state.
I've been tracking what plumbers actually charge across Florida, and the gap between South Florida and the Panhandle is bigger than most people realize. Here's where things stand in 2026.
Hourly Rates by Metro Area
| Metro Area | Apprentice | Journeyman | Master Plumber |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miami-Dade / Broward | $19 - $26/hr | $32 - $45/hr | $48 - $65/hr |
| Tampa Bay | $18 - $24/hr | $29 - $40/hr | $44 - $58/hr |
| Orlando | $17 - $23/hr | $28 - $38/hr | $42 - $55/hr |
| Jacksonville | $17 - $22/hr | $27 - $36/hr | $40 - $52/hr |
| Fort Myers / Naples | $18 - $25/hr | $30 - $42/hr | $45 - $60/hr |
| Pensacola / Panhandle | $15 - $20/hr | $24 - $32/hr | $35 - $46/hr |
South Florida runs about 25-35% higher than the Panhandle. That tracks with the cost of living difference. A two-bedroom apartment in Miami costs nearly double what it does in Pensacola, so the labor market prices reflect that.
Fort Myers and Naples are interesting because they've climbed fast. The post-hurricane rebuild work and ongoing condo construction pushed demand up, and a lot of plumbers moved there from other parts of the state.
What to Bill Customers
Your bill rate should be separate from what you pay your plumbers. The standard multiplier I see working in Florida is 2.8x to 3.5x on labor. So a journeyman making $35/hr should be billed out at $98-$122 per hour to the customer.
Some shops go higher, especially in South Florida where overhead is steep. Commercial insurance alone can run $15,000-$25,000 per year for a mid-size plumbing company in Dade County.
Common Service Pricing in Florida
| Service | Price Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Service Call / Diagnostic | $69 - $119 | South FL trending toward $99-$119 |
| Drain Cleaning (Main Line) | $175 - $375 | Camera inspection usually extra ($150-$250) |
| Water Heater Install (Tank) | $1,200 - $2,400 | 40-50 gallon standard |
| Water Heater Install (Tankless) | $2,800 - $4,500 | Rinnai and Navien most common |
| Whole-House Repipe | $4,500 - $12,000 | Depends on size, material, and slab vs. raised |
| Toilet Replace | $275 - $450 | Standard install, customer supplies or markup |
| Slab Leak Repair | $2,000 - $5,500 | Florida-specific: very common due to soil conditions |
Slab leak repairs are a Florida specialty. The combination of limestone substrate and shifting soil means cracked pipes under slabs happen constantly. If you're not offering slab leak detection and repair, you're missing a high-margin service in this state.
Florida-Specific Factors That Affect Pricing
A few things make Florida different from other plumbing markets:
- Licensing is state-level. Florida requires a state license for plumbing contractors. You need 4 years of experience and have to pass the exam. This limits supply compared to states with local-only licensing, which is good for your rates.
- Hurricane season drives emergency pricing. From June through November, emergency plumbing calls spike after storms. Most shops charge 1.5x to 2x their normal rates for storm-related emergencies. Build this into your pricing schedule before hurricane season starts.
- Polybutylene pipe replacement. Thousands of Florida homes built in the 1980s and 1990s still have poly pipe. This is a massive ongoing repiping opportunity. If you're marketing whole-house repipes to neighborhoods built in that era, you have a ready-made customer base.
- Hard water wears out water heaters faster. Florida's hard water means tank water heaters typically last 8-10 years instead of 12-15. More replacements means more install revenue. Factor this into your marketing.
How to Know If Your Rates Are Right
Pull up your last 20 jobs. If your gross margin on labor is below 55%, you're undercharging. If you're losing bids on more than 40% of your estimates, you might be slightly high for your area, but check your closing process before dropping prices.

Get Free ToolsFlorida plumbing is busy and it's only getting busier. The state added nearly 400,000 new residents in 2025 alone. Those people need pipes, drains, and water heaters. Make sure you're pricing to build a business, not just to stay busy.
